Guess where I am? Let's make this a multiple choice quiz.
Choice number one would be Barters Island Road on either side of the new bridge.
Choice number two is Route 27 South, weekdays between 6:30 and 7 a.m. at or near Dunkin Donuts.
Choice number three is either side of the Southport bridge at 1:30 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon with six sailboats in line through the Gut.
Choice number four is approaching the intersection of Route 27 north and Route One, in Edgecomb.
Choice number five is the southbound lane of Route 1 on the Wiscasset bridge.
Hint! It’s not the Boothbay roundabout or the parking lot at Hannaford. And, if your final choice is “all of the above,” you are disqualified! However, if you selected the intersection of Route 27 and Route 1, you would be close, but no cigar.
Today's photo was recorded through the windshield of my stopped 2003 VW Jetta as we crested the high middle section of the Wiscasset bridge. Directly ahead of me was a rather significant vehicle with New Jersey plates and a very demonstrative couple, arms flailing, with their left turn signal light blinking and no visible means of support. We were followed by a line of vehicles that trailed out of sight to the north and vanished into the fog toward the south. We had made a bad choice. I almost got out of the car to calm the New Jersey couple but they did not seem ready for an intervention. I decided to zone out and tuned into NPR's Meghna Chakrabarti as she interviewed someone from the National Park Service regarding tree loss in California fires.
If you chose stopped traffic at the soon to be opened Barters Island bridge, you must retake the quiz and wait in line to cross over when the bridge reopens, or use an alternate route.
I've decided to order in on Amazon and to resist travel from home until October.
